Becoming Director of Engineering at Hello Innovation is your opportunity to own the development of our game-changing solutions that are used by millions every month!  The Director of Engineering is responsible for all our software development initiatives, and for maintaining a healthy, motivated team of talented Engineers that code to the highest quality standards and are driven to continuously improve.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who has strong experience managing a wide variety of software development projects.  The day-to-day work for this position includes brainstorming new ideas, ensuring exceptional standards of software development and maintaining an efficient, consistent architectural approach across all software development projects.  You will also be a mentor to junior developers and enjoy getting your hands dirty!

A Hello Innovation Director of Engineering should possess a blend of big picture software architecture with detail orientation and obsession for efficiency.



  • Build and maintain self organizing teams of motivated, talented software engineers.
  • Craft, implement and maintain consistent software development policies and standards throughout the department.
  • Ensure a consistent, efficient architectural approach across all projects.
  • Implement and maintain consistent build and deployment plans for all projects.
  • Drive continuous improvement and new Engineering initiatives throughout the department.
  • Work with senior management to effectively prioritize development efforts.
  • Work with Human Resources to predict and fulfill future Engineering staffing requirements.
  • Be a leader and mentor for all Engineers.
  • Enjoy getting your hands dirty!



  • Must have at least 2+ years Director or higher level experience managing software teams.
  • Must have at least 8+ years of diverse software development experience, including experience with high traffic Web-based applications.
  • Strong background with Object-oriented design and implementation.
  •  Must be technology agnostic but also have detailed technical understanding of .NET, Ruby on Rails, Front-End Development, and other platforms for applications and services.
  • Must have experience running Agile development efforts and be able to demonstrate your ability to manage them along side traditional development efforts.
  • Have successful experience working in fast moving, technically diverse environments while bringing a deep appreciation for the structure and processes necessary to manage effectively across multiple projects.
  • Entrepreneurial drive, demonstrated ability to achieve stretch goals in an innovative and fast-paced environment.
  • Strong project-management skills. Proven track record for product delivery. Able to fit in well within an informal "start-up like" environment and to provide hands-on management.
  • Bachelors in Computer Science or other related field, or equivalent experience, required.
  • Experience working with outsourced and offshore development teams is a plus.
